Justin Brownlee is back in the Philippines after being cleared to play for Gilas Pilipinas for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.Brownlee underwent a three-month provisional suspension after being found positive for Carboxy-THC during the Asian Games, where he helped Gilas Pilipinas win the gold medal.”Mentally, it was very tough,” Brownlee told the media about his time away from NBA.”Just not knowing whatever the outcome maybe, the situation that was going on. [It’s] very stressful for sure. Lot of days and nights thinking about it, feeling sorry for myself.”However, Brownlee just kept the faith, hoping that the situation will end well.”At the end of the day, if you get knocked down or you get a setback, you just got to stay positive and move forward.”In his return to the Philippines, Brownlee received a warm welcome as he is now described as a ‘hero’ because of their feat in the Asiad.”It’s just humbling. I never though someone will look at me as a hero,” said Brownlee.”I just go out there, try my hardest. Things like that happen. It’s kind of a funny feeling but I definitely embrace it and enjoy it. It’s something that I can cherish. Somebody calling you a hero definitely makes you feel you accomplished something bigger than life. It feels great to be called a hero and is also humbling.”Brownlee will join Gilas under head coach Tim Cone in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers later this month. The national team will face Hong Kong on the 22nd and Chinese Taipei on the 25th.—JKC, GMA Integrated News
