Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva has been slapped with a hefty P100,000 fine for making a mocking gesture towards San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent during their Game 2 clash last Sunday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals. The league decision came due to Abueva’s violation of a league rule that states “any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of ‘physical disability’ shall be subject to a fine not lower than P100,000.”The incident happened at the 9:52 mark of the fourth quarter shortly after Abueva committed a deliberate foul on Mo Tautuaa which gave him his fifth foul of the match. Abueva was then subbed out and was seen mocking Gallent’s physical disability.Gallent was involved in a motorcycle accident in 1988 which caused him to lose his right eye.League commissioner Willie Marcial shared that Abueva already apologized to Gallent later that night with the latter accepting it.Spat with Tautuaas ‘settled’Meanwhile, Marcial said Abueva had settled his issue with Tautuaa and his wife regarding their shouting spat in the aftermath of Game 2. Marcial said Abueva extended his apologies to the Tautuaas for the verbal altercation, which also saw the wives of both players get embroiled.”Nag-sorry na si Calvin sa akin, kay Mo, and doon sa misis. Init lang siguro ‘yun ng ulo after the game and natural lang naman ‘yon,” Marcial told GMA News Online in an interview just hours after he summoned both camps at the PBA office.”Pero okay na sila. Nag-usap na sila kanina, settled na.”[Calvin has said sorry to me, to Mo, and to the wife. He was probably just heated after the game and that was natural. But they’re okay. They spoke earlier and it’s settled.]Abueva is expected to suit up when the Hotshots try to avoid dropping to a 0-3 hole in Game 3 of the series on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. —JMB, GMA Integrated News
