Veteran guard Joey Barcuma has decided to forego his final playing year with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA as he makes a leap to the professional ranks. Barcuma said that he will suit up for Zamboanga in the Maharlika Pilipinas NBA League (MPBL), joining the growing list of key players who have left the ALTAS in the past weeks ahead of the NCAA Season 100. The 5-foot-6 guard was the latest key player to leave Perpetual after Jun Roque, Mark Denver Omega, Cyrus Nitura, and Carlo Ferreras, which all came just weeks after Perpetual named Olsen Racela as the head coach. Barcuma was the fourth leading scorer in Season 98, collecting 7.89 points on top of 2.89 rebounds, 2.11 assists, and 1.0 steals behind veterans Kim Aurin and Jielo Razon. However, he saw a dip in his numbers in Season 99 with 1.89 markers, 1.22 boards, and 1.94 dimes as the ALTAS finished at fifth spot with a 10-8 card. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
